Maine Motor Transport Association members recognize that professional truck drivers are entrusted with the responsibility to deliver goods and services safely, while protecting our drivers and those with whom we share the road.
Our members understand that distracted driving is more than just texting or hand-held cellphone use, which is prohibited by regulation.
Distracted Driving can also include anything that takes the attention of the driver away from the task of driving, including:
- Eating
- Reading
- Talking to passengers
- Grooming
- Adjusting the radio, cd, or MP3 player
- Day dreaming
- GPS
The undersigned members commit to increasing highway safety by implementing policies and procedures to eliminate the risks associated with distracted driving and by educating their professional drivers on the dangers of driving while distracted.
