The October edition of Maine Line News announced a policy change when it comes to US vaccination requirements for Canadians coming across the border. Sometime in January of 2022, the US will require foreign nationals travelling for essential purposes (such as truck drivers) to show proof that they are fully vaccinated, which is a change to current policy which has allowed essential workers to enter the US without having to verify their vaccination status.
This afternoon, the Government of Canada has reciprocated by announcing that as of January 15, 2022, certain groups of travelers, who are currently exempt from entry requirements, will only be allowed to enter the country if they are fully vaccinated with one of the vaccines approved for entry into Canada. And yes, one of these groups includes “essential service providers, including truck drivers.”
MMTA has reached out to Maine’s elected leaders immediately to engage them on this issue and to let them know about the impact it will have on the supply chain if allowed to stand. We will keep members informed as strategies and developments are presented.
